Dave Bechtel

Dave is always lending a hand filming for others on the team, even when it means skipping dinner to film a recovery. He's salt of the earth and selfless in many senses of the word. Married to Chyla, the husband/wife team share many facets of the outdoors together, including scouting, hanging stands, and filming. Dave is a high school football and baseball coach, as well as an educator. With a baby on the way in 2020, Dave's time outdoors may be limited compared to years past, but you can bet he'll still be an active part of the team as he always has been.

Early Season Bow Hunting for Whitetails

This whitetail bow hunt takes place during the 2020 Wisconsin archery season in early October. Dave Bechtel had all his apples in one basket when two weeks shy of the archery opener the land owner spilled Dave's basket notifying him that someone else would take over hunting rights on the property. With little time left to make adjustments, Dave's plan came down to public land and seeking permission on new ground. On this particular hunt, Dave is followed by cameraman, Sam Ubl, into a small piece of ground they filmed a kill out of in September of 2019. Dave just finished hanging the double set to film the evening hunt when Sam spots a good buck moving in. From the ground at the base of the tree, Sam films the encounter as Dave sends an arrow into the buck, but there’s a twist! Call it a silver lining, so to speak. The same landowner that prevented us from tracking this buck was the very person rushing us to remove him once we spotted him from the road. What a shame this deer went to waste. He ran 180 yards before piling up and our hunch where he was dead was spot on. Dave registered this buck with his 2019 Wisconsin archery tag the very day we located him. Hopefully the landowner has a change of heart if he ever gets a similar phone call or knock on the door.
